Running of the Crabs

Currently, it is the 25th of April. I just want to say, that running a yacht travel blog is difficult for one key reason. WiFi. It’s easier if your in mainland, staying at hotels, usually you can find yourself some WiFi somewhere. But here your lucky if you have phone bars. So I have been on a hunt for any free WiFi spots, and have so far failed. I’m reminding myself of a teenage girl… Wait…

Anyway, if you are managing to read this, I’m having a party somewhere because I have found the WiFi. So what is the point of me telling you this? For a key reason, there is no schedule for this blog, because I can’t promise you anything. In an odd way I’m happy about that, spontaneity, hey you may get a post 3 times a week, or three times a month. I shall surprise you. Currently I’m adding to my posts daily. Then I’m going to post them all in bulk. Unless I decide to use my iPhone’s hotspot like I did for the last post…

We’re in Bermagui (Ber-ma-goo-y)

Yesterday I went on a walk when everyone was out, only to run into them bringing me breakfast because I slept in. Jaco heard that there was a skatepark nearby, so guess where we had to go? We left Mum at the boat because she was planning on doing the washing, so Tom, Dad, Jacob and I set off to the skatepark. I thought it would be weird not having a car, but it honestly doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it would. I laughed super hard when Jacob and this other kid were circling each other at the park and Dad declared it a skate off. I noticed this awesomely mysterious wooden path going up the hillside. So guess where I went? A five minute walk through a sort of forest lead me to one of the best beaches I’ve seen. The sand was fine and the waves were high, the water a clear and deep blue. There was hardly anyone there so I went running through the waves acting nuts as usual.

A walk through the town later led be to discover the beach was called Horseshoe Bay, for obvious reasons. So why is this post called running of the Crabs then? I’m getting to it, relax.

We were heading off to the Anzac Parade and while Dad, Mum and Tom were speaking with one of the boat owners, Jacob and I ran ahead to a little beach opposite the marina. We noticed these little shiny bluish-purplish things running around on the beach. Jacob and I got closer and noticed that the things were crabs running closer to the sea and then burying themselves closer to the water because the tide was low. The crabs were Blue Swimmer Crab males, the females are a brown and your not supposed to kill the females incase they are carrying young. We traveled from Eden to Bermagui with a couple, the lady was walking her dog and found a lido. Also known as a beach with a net wall so that large fish can’t get through. So Jacob and I checked that out. I still prefer Horseshoe Bay though, the waves are better, there is more of a beach and it isn’t as busy as the lido. Most of the evenings were spent at the Bermagui Pub where I attempted to learn Pool, and discovered I’m really bad at it. As well as having many table tennis rallies with Jacob. Tomorrow Jacob and I are going to scooter down to a different beach over the bridge.
